Lacey
About a week ago I got a call from J's aunt-in-law. She asked if I could foster a dog for a few weeks while the transport from Denver to Oregon would sort itself out.
The reason she called me was because I've always been enamored with Bernese Mountain dogs and Lacey was a 90lbs St. Bernard puppy.
I jumped on the chance to have a little bundle of fur and love hover around the house for a few weeks and contacted the lady who is in charge of all this. Lacey was coming down from Indiana where she had apparently been rescued from a kill-shelter.
I could barely contain myself for the time until she would arrive and started finding out where the nearest recommended vet was located and freshened up my knowledge of foods and activities she'd require.
Obviously I'd be heartbroken when she had to leave, because unlike humans, dogs can prove love, trust and loyalty almost instantly.
It all came to a screeching halt when two days before she was to arrive, I got the message that someone local to her in Indiana had adopted her.
Selfishly I was a bit sad, but if all works out better for Lacey, then it's all for the better.
I wish I could get a dog.
